Pro-Form Carbon T7 – The Mid-Range Treadmill That Packs a Punch!

The Lowdown

The T7 is the latest mid-range treadmill from Pro-Form. Packing a 2.75HP motor and 7 inch touchscreen display, we put it through its paces to see how it stacks up against machines both above and below the price range.

First Impressions

Living up to its name, it looks very ‘carbon’ once unpacked and set up. The colour scheme is all black and silver apart from the small red features of the running suspension that are a deep red, although they are subtly hidden.

One of its main features that many will look at is that it comes with its own 30 day iFIT membership, this looks to be in direct competition with the likes of Peloton.

Pros

  • Good size running track
  • No bright colour schemes
  • Sturdy frame and high quality materials
  • No complicated button layouts
  • Built in CoolAire fan technology

Cons

  • iFIT family membership is £28 monthly
  • Would have loved a bigger screen

Pro-Form Carbon T7 Treadmill Review

Initial Set-up

Once set up it boasts a large running track of around 50cm x 140cm. This puts it firmly in the middle of the pack when compared to other brands like Reebok and NordicTrack in this price category.

I would like to stress this is personal preference, but bigger isn’t always better. For a typical home with some space limitations, this would be ideal. It has plenty of room without going over the top.

The treadmill requires minimal assembly. After only a short time (about 1 hour) you should be setup and ready to go.

iFIT membership

I want to start with the iFIT built-in personal trainer, simply because this is the first screen that will greet you once you turn on the treadmill. Included is a free 30-day family membership, which you will have to subscribe to if you would like to continue this feature once expired.

It seems an obvious competitor to Peloton, who are big in this space, but I would like to add that the quality of the classes and the professional running routes were excellent. It even has interactive features that allow the classes to control your speed and incline. So far, so good.

Running quality

A little harder to run on than other treadmills from competitors, such as the Reebok 300+, but I have to say this isn’t necessarily a bad point. It just means that it’s less spongy than some others, especially in the budget range. This technology is the ISO flex cushion, also found on the more expensive T10 model.

The Carbon T7 has a good quality max 2.75HP motor that means it will not feel sluggish when your foot lands, and power is required to move you through your stride. With this size motor, even those looking for interval or sprint training would be covered.

Overall, I soon found myself enjoying a run through one of the many scenic routes that were on offer with just a few button presses on the built-in display.

7” touch screen display

The screen is sharp, responsive and has no motion blur. Matched with the built-in speakers, it was a pleasant experience. Treadmill technology has come such a way in a short space of time, you no longer get grainy small screens that often miss multiple button presses (thankfully).

My only thought while using it was it would have been a better experience on a 10 inch display. But, I appreciate with the lower cost there have to be savings made somewhere. Pro-Form have included a 10” screen on their T10.

CoolAire fan technology

A nice addition in comparison to other treadmills is the built-in CoolAire(™) fan system that has multiple speeds to keep you cool while you run. While using the fan system,  I have to admit that it worked well and was not a distraction over the sound of the speakers while in use.

Easy lift system

The Pro-Form T7 comes with an easy lift folding system. This allows a safe assisted lift and drop. I would hope so, this treadmill comes in at almost 100kgs! Although this treadmill has the ability to fold, I wouldn’t class this as a portable treadmill. I advise a fixed space for use and fold away for rare occasions where needed.

Final thoughts on the Pro-Form Carbon T7 Treadmill

Our final thoughts on the Pro-Form T7 are that this is a professional piece of kit for a very reasonable price. At the time of this review, we were even offered a monthly payment option for those who want to spread the cost.

The running experience was excellent, and it comes with everything you could want for a regular running experience. A powerful motor, cooling fans and a bright vibrant touch screen display. You do need to be prepared to be fully committed, as the most benefit comes with the purchase of the subscription.
