The Lowdown
In a similar price range to market-leading rowing machines like the Concept2, we have a look at the Nordic Track RW300 to see if it’s a match to its competitors. With a silent magnetic 24-level resistance system and access to on-demand training with iFit membership, we ask if it’s enough…

First Impressions
Like most of the NordicTrack range, this RW300 is a sturdy and robust at-home rowing machine. Out of the box it’s heavy, weighing in at 48kg (7.5 stone) and set up is very straightforward.
My first impressions are that this machine wouldn’t look out of place in a high-end gym, with its attractive features, sleek control system, and smooth resistance system, this is a quality at-home machine.
The monorail is longer than your average home rowing machine and there are nice touches like the wide moulded seat and ergonomic handles, making this a comfortable row.
As it’s NordicTrack, it focuses on the iFit integration and gives you a 30-day free trial (£30+ p/m after). It has lots of on-demand, interactive features and classes/training specific to rowing, but that’s only worthwhile if you’re willing to fork out the extra monthly payment!
Pros
- Space-saving foldable design
- Comfy padded seat
- First class iFit on-demand classes for 30 days free.
- Heavy max user weight for rower
- Extended rail allowing longer strokes.
Cons
- iFit is expensive after the free trial.
- Ipad/tablet not included.
NordicTrack RW300 Rowing Machine Review

Set-Up:
Putting the NordicTrack RW300 together wasn’t too difficult, but it will need two pairs of hands.
Before you start, check everything is it the box – there is an inventory of screws and parts on the manual, so make sure it’s all there. Most of the tools needed are provided, but you will need a Phillips screwdriver and an adjustable wrench to tighten everything properly.
Also, before you get your hands dirty, make sure you register the product, so you are entitled to the warranty. NordicTrack offer a 2-year parts and labour and 10 year frame guarantee, but only if you register within 28 days of purchase. So don’t forget that!
Getting started with set up, the main frame and most of the parts come in the box in its folded position. But with the majority of the rowing machine being pre-assembled means putting it together isn’t too bad.
Two fiddly bits which did need the two of us were sliding the seat onto the rail and putting the fixings into place, and attaching the console (making sure the wires etc don’t get muddled.
All in all, a straightforward set-up, but you will need some help and some extra patience with the fiddly bits!
For reference, the dimensions of the box is L120 x W59 x H66cm and weighs around 55kgs.

Performance:
So how much of a workout can you get from the RW300 rowing machine? It is quite challenging, even if you are a frequent rower. It has a robust inertia enhanced flywheel, 24 digital resistance levels, a 5-inch coloured display with lots of feedback metrics and a selection of workouts.
The display gives you all the expected workout feedback like calories, time, distance, as well as some more advanced ones like watts, strokes and 500m split. You can also connect your own heart rate sensor to the system too.
We talk a lot about iFit membership when we review NordicTrack products, because you always get 30 days free, but then you have to pay. And we are often asked- can you still get a good workout if you don’t sign up to iFit after the trial? And for the RW300, the answer is yes!
It doesn’t talk about it too much in the description, but there are 20 “onboard” workouts on this machine, programmes like calorie and interval training, and time workouts. These are pre-programmed, so the resistance will automatically adjust based on what you’ve selected. And they are quite challenging!
It goes without saying that iFit is an excellent interactive tool to get classes, training and much more on-demand, but it depends if you’re willing to pay an extra £34 a month to use it!.

Comfort:
Like we’ve already mentioned, it’s the extra special features about this NordicTrack rowing machine that make it a nice piece of at-home equipment. And you do get what you pay for!
For your comfort, the rower has a big padded seat, oversized pivoting pedals and a SoftTouch ergonomic handle, all to make your workout more tailored to you.
The RW300 is very quiet when in use, so perfect if you’ve got neighbours to think about. It’s Bluetooth enabled so you can connect your device to one of the 2 speakers and get those tunes going to really motivate you.
Maybe one of the best things about this rowing machine is its space saving design and transport wheels, so when you’ve had enough of exercising, fold it down and forget about it.
Things we really liked:
20 pre-programmed workouts.
2 year parts and labour and ten year frame warranty.
Space saving design will let you store in a small space.
2024 Review update
The RE300 is one of the best rowing machines we have tested to date. It’s super smooth action and endless settings and programs mean that you will never tire of this machine.
It’s on offer quite often and so we would advise to look out for the many deals and discounts available that are repeated throughout the year.
Final thoughts on the NordicTrack RW300 Rowing Machine.
The NordicTrack RW300 rowing machine is a good choice if you’re looking to add a rower to your home workout routine. It’s got some challenging workouts integrated in the display if you didn’t want to fork out on an iFit membership.
The space saving design is also a great feature on this rowing machine as it folds down and compresses into storage size unlike most other rowers that are stored vertically.
