The Lowdown
The NordicTrack 7i is the cheapest in the EXP Series, and that is still RRP’ing at nearly £1800! So what’s so special about this range? It is where Interactive Training Meets Precision Engineering, which means its digital and modern technology works alongside a powerful and robust treadmill, to give you a gym-quality workout.
First Impressions
First impressions of the NordicTrack EXP 7i treadmill is that it is something you’d expect to see in your local gym for commercial use. From an engineering perspective, it’s impressive with a 3.0CHP motor allowing running speeds up to 22km/h (which is fast) and inclines up to 12%.
What sets this treadmill apart from the rest is the exceptional digital and technology integration it has. The console is WiFi and Bluetooth enabled and there are excellent training choices too, through the use of iFit. With the 7-inch HD smart touchscreen, you can follow on-demand workouts, stay connected, and stay in shape. The EXP 7i is so advanced, the instructors can use Automatic Trainer Control to adjust your speed and incline mid-workout!
The key thing to mention is this is a quality treadmill, but you can only use its full potential if you invest in a monthly iFit membership too (which is about £34 a month after the free trial).
Pros
- Fast running speeds
- One-touch buttons to change incline and speed
- Heavy max user weight (136kg)
- Large smart touchscreen
- Good warranty
Cons
- Heavy to move around
- Need to pay for iFit to get full potential
- Fiddly to set-up.
NordicTrack EXP 7i Treadmill Review
Set-Up:
Set-up was a little fiddly and took two of us a few hours to put together.
First of all, the EXP 7i treadmill is heavy, when the box was delivered it was well over 15 stone (about 100kg), so make sure you put it together in the room you’re planning to use it in, as you won’t be carrying the finished article up any stairs! On that note, make sure the room you’ll be using it in has a plug socket and a good WiFi connection.
When opening the box there are quite a few bits, so make sure that everything is in there- and you’ll also need to get a Phillips screwdriver and a wrench to tighten some parts. A word of warning, don’t use any power tools! I tried to be clever by getting out my electric screwdriver and it was a bit too powerful for some of the parts.
The manual was relatively straightforward to follow- the mainframe comes as one big part, so it was more about just having patience fitting the handlebars, integrated tray and console together and making sure all the wires were in the right places!
For reference, the delivered box dimensions were L212 x W82 x H36cm and assembled the EXP 7i treadmill measured L196 x W99 x H151cm.
Features:
This treadmill is powerful! It has a 3.0 CHP (continuous horsepower) which means you can reach sprinting speeds of up to 22km/h. It also has an incline range of 0-12%. And both can be changed at the touch of a button. It also has a wide running belt of 51 x 152cm. All of these things make the EXP 7i challenging for even the most advanced runner.
The 7-inch console is touchscreen and made to improve your workout performance. As expected it has all the feedback metrics you’d need like incline, time, calories, distance, speed etc. And then to get the best bit you’ll need to sign up for iFit. After connecting the screen to WiFi and accessing iFit, you can see a catalogue of on-demand workouts, map running routes, instructor sessions and loads more. What really blows my mind is the Automatic Trainer Control which gives the instructor the ability to alter your speed and incline mid-workout! Wowza!
You do get a 30-day free trial for iFit, but to get maximum performance on this NordicTrack treadmill, you’ll need to pay a membership.
Comfort:
As well as technology, this EXP 7i also has some nice features to keep you motivated during your workout.
To make your jog kinder to your joints there is adjustable cushioning on the wide tread belt where you can alter the firmness. When you’re hot you can turn on the AutoBreeze fan at the touch of a button. There is also an integrated tray where you can safely put your phone, water etc.
The NordicTrack EXP 7i is Bluetooth enabled and has two digital speakers, which is perfect if you want to connect your phone/tablet and listen to your favourite music or audiobook to keep you pumping!
Despite this being a massive piece of equipment, it still has a space-saving design, so when you’ve stopped working out, you can safely fold it away and forget about it.
Things we really liked:
Advanced console and Automatic Trainer Control.
Digital speakers that connect to Bluetooth.
Good warranty (Lifetime Frame Warranty, 10-year Motor Warranty, 2-Year Parts & Labour). But you MUST register within 28 days of purchase.
Final thoughts on the NordicTrack EXP 7i Treadmill
This NordicTrack treadmill would be a great addition to any home with its superior engineering and digital capabilities.
But, it is expensive, and to get the most use out of it will need an iFit subscription which is about £34 a month (after the free trial). For some, that might be instead of a gym membership, and a great way to stay motivated, but for others, it might be too much when you’ve already spent £1,800 on a treadmill.
Whatever your thoughts, you can’t deny that this NordicTrack treadmill is a quality piece of home gym equipment!
