JTX Strider-X8: Smart Compact Cross Trainer Review
First Impressions:
Once out of the box, the JTX Strider X8 looks sturdy without appearing clumsy. The Bluetooth-connected console looks clear and simple to get the hang of.
You have stationary front handlebars as well as moving handlebars. Both offer secure grips with pulse sensors to stay on track.
The cross trainer is finished in matt black giving it a modern and contemporary look. First impressions are that the trainer is not oversized for the modern home. Yet, it manages to give you the impression it is a piece of kit that lets you enjoy a gym-style workout in the comfort of your home.
There is a tablet holder where you can place your tablet which lets you keep your iPad or phone directly in front of you. And the built-in bottle holder makes it easy for you to reach for a drink when you need it.The footrests are generously proportioned offering a 16-inch (40.60cm) stride length.
All in all, for under £500, this JTX cross trainer certainly gives off a gym-style feel.
Set up:
Assembling the JTX Strider X8 is challenging to do on your own.So, once the cross-trainer has been delivered, it is best to ask someone to help with the assembly.
All of the instructions and tools you need are included in the box. Assembling the JTX Strider only took just over an hour, and the bulk of the work has been done with the 7kg flywheel and mainframe.
As always, it is best to lay out all of the parts so that you can easily follow the diagram. We searched for a YouTube assembly video, but could not find one. There is an assembly video for the Strider X7 which was the predecessor to the Strider 8.
All in all, not too bad to assemble and instructions were easy to follow.
The dimensions of the delivered box were L124.5 x W38 x H66cm and weighed 57.6kg (9 stone), so it’s worth setting up the equipment in the room you’re planning to use it in (especially if upstairs).
Then, fully assembled, the JTX Strider 8 is L130 x W70 x H169cm.
Pros
- Transport wheels for easy storage
- Easy to use
- 18 built-in programs
- Bluetooth connection
Cons
- Assembly best with 2 people
Build quality
The JTX Strider offers a modern, sleek design perfect for the modern home.
Once out of its box and fully assembled, the cross trainer weighs 51kg (8 stone). Some may find this slightly heavy to move around. However, as you can say the cross-trainer does not dominate a room, there is no reason why you can’t leave the trainer set up.
Both sets of handlebars are well-positioned to assist and enhance the workout experience.
For a cross trainer within this price range the build quality is very good and you can feel the sturdiness from the 7kg flywheel.
When in use, the machine feels solid. Your workouts flow well. There is very little vibration or feedback.
The Strider X8 can handle a user up to 5ft 9 inches in height while offering a generous 120kg maximum user weight.
Performance
The 7kg flywheel offers more than enough resistance to give you a good workout at home.
The 16 levels of resistance offer plenty of scope for varying your workouts and really easy to change with the turning wheel dial.
The programs consist of 12 pre-set options, watt training, one 4-hour program, fitness test and body fat monitoring, all a great way to stay motivated, and the resistance is dynamic, so will change with your program settings.
The console screen is well-positioned for letting you see and monitor your stats. The clear screen lets you monitor speed, RPM, distance, time, calories, watts and pulse. The program profiles are clearly displayed. And, if you would like to monitor your height rate, you can use the hand grips.
When you want to challenge yourself, you can try apps including Kinomap and other popular training apps. The built-in Bluetooth function makes it easy to stay choose an app and stay connected. To switch to other apps than the Kinomap, place your tablet or phone on the console ledge. From Kinomap, you can easily upload your workout stats to Strava. This is a great way to add variety to your workouts and stay motivated.
There is also a chest belt option to wirelessly track your heart rate, but this is an extra cost.
Things we really liked:
- Bluetooth technology lets you easily add your tablet or phone to work out using a range of apps or YouTube videos.
- The stride length is comfortable and you don’t feel you have to “push” the machine to get a good workout.
- Easy to move around for storage.
- The 2-year parts and repair warranty is an added bonus.
Final thoughts on the JTX Strider-X8: Smart Compact Cross Trainer
The JTX Strider X8 is a good choice for someone who wants to improve and maintain their fitness. It is great if you’re looking for a full body cardio workout that is low impact and kind to your joints.
The choice of programmes is excellent. Thanks to Bluetooth technology, you can also use alternative apps or work out while watching YouTube videos.
Compared to many other cross trainers, the JTX Strider is relatively easy to move and relocate and despite it’s more compact measurements, doesn’t fall down on performance.
A great choice for those short on space but looking for a varied and full body workout!
