First Impressions

Sturdy, strong and stylish are three adjectives that spring to mind when you first see the JLL IC300 Indoor Exercise Bike 2021. The sleek black design with red trim, complete with a stainless-steel finish really makes this exercise bike stand out.

The sizeable 18kg flywheel, 3-piece crank and direct chain system provide a smooth riding experience, which closely resembles on-road cycling, however as this is a typical chain system, this can be quite noisy when in-use.

Weighing in at 41kg, it certainly is strong and sturdy, which provides a good level of quality assurance, as well as remaining steady when in-use. I have often found with other cheaper models, the frame can rattle slightly, however the wide base of the JLL IC300 negates any wobble.

If you’re looking for a compact, in-door exercise bike, that can mimic the on-road cycling experience at a price tag that won’t break the bank, then this bike might be the one for you.

Detailed review of the JLL IC300 Indoor Exercise Bike 2021

Setup

This exercise bike is fairly easy to assemble, although it is certainly on the heavier side, so a second pair of hands would certainly come in useful.

It’s sturdy and robust and provides that solid construction feel when in-use, something I particularly like, as on cheaper models I have found they can feel a bit cheap and temperamental.

Despite weighing in at 41kg, it’s fairly easy to move around due to the in-built wheels, although it can’t be folded for storage, so if you are lacking storage space, a foldable exercise bike might be better suited.

The bike dimensions are L103 x W51 x H110cm, so make sure you’ve got the space!

Riding Experience

The JLL IC300 comes with a very sizeable 18kg flywheel. This provides a smooth and comfortable riding experience and closely mimics on-road cycling. The only downside with this chain driven system, is that it can be a bit noisy.

Therefore, consider when you’ll be using it or who you’ll be using this bike around, as to whether this could be an issue.

It also comes with an adjustable seat and handlebars, allowing for 6 vertical level adjustments. This means this bike should be usable for all shapes and sizes and the 130kg max user weight is a nice addition, where this max-user weight is slightly higher than other competitor models.

The resistance is of a decent level, and easy to toggle between, where you can simply turn the knob to either increase or decrease.

The metal pedals are either love or hate. Personally, I don’t mind this, as I like to wear shoes when I’m cycling, but if you like pedalling in socks or bare foot, then the metal pedals can be slightly unforgiving.

Display

The on-board LCD computer display is clear and easy-to-use and provides all the essential exercise metrics, such as speed, time, distance, pulse, calories and odometer.

There are also in-built heart sensors, which is an added bonus.

This exercise bike doesn’t come with any pre-set workout programmes, which is not uncommon in exercise bikes and something I don’t consider a huge detractor; however, this would be a nice additional performance feature, allowing for more flexibility when working out.

Pros

  • Sleek, compact and stylish design
  • Generous 130kg (over 20 stone) max user weight
  • On-road cycling feel
  • Adjustable seat and handlebars
  • LCD Display
  • In-built heart and pulse monitor
  • Front wheels to move around.

Cons

  • Non-foldable, limited storage capacity
  • Quite heavy at 41kgs (about 6 and a half stone)
  • Due to the chain-driven mechanism, can be quite noisy when in-use

How does the JLL IC300 Indoor Exercise Bike 2021 compare to the Roger Black Gold Magnetic Exercise Bike?

Both of these exercise bikes can’t be folded and would therefore appeal to someone who is not limited by space.

The JLL IC300 is more expensive, at nearly double the price, but it feels a lot more durable and robust. The 18kg fly wheel is 12kg more than the 6kg flywheel the Roger Black exercise bike uses, allowing for a much smoother riding experience.

One of the main differences is the riding system each bike uses. The JLL IC300 uses a chain-system compared to the Roger Black magnetic resistance system. The chain system replicates on-road cycling but does produce a fair bit of noise compared to the magnetic system.

The Roger Black exercise bike also comes with pre-set user programmes, allowing for slightly for variation in workouts and both machines offer the essential exercise metrics, such as speed, time, distance and calories.

Choosing which one is right for you very much depends on what you want out of your exercise bike. If you’re looking for a cheaper model, which offers the basic riding experience then I would go for the Roger Black Magnetic Exercise Bike.

If you’re looking to really get that road cycling experience in your own home and want that sturdy and robust riding feel, then it would be worth stretching the purse strings a little more and investing in the JLL IC300.

Final thoughts on the JL300 Indoor Exercise Bike

The JLL IC300 will appeal to both beginners and those slightly more advanced. The comfortable riding experience is certainly a winner in my book, however the noise can be a drawback, especially if you’re living in close proximity with others.

The stylish design is pleasant on the eye and the bulky durable quality, provides a certain level of assurance when working out, although not being foldable can be another drawback if you need space saving gym equipment.

At over £300 it’s certainly not the cheapest on the market, but it is a case of you get what you pay for and if you’re looking to invest in a road-bike experience in the comfort of your own home, then the JLL300 is definitely one to consider.
