Opti Manual Exercise Bike Review

Overview

If you are looking for an exercise bike on a budget then they don’t come any cheaper than the latest model from Opti. It may have moderate build quality and simple functions but they have done a great job at introducing an exercise bike to those who are potentially new to exercising at home.

Delivery and setup

Delivery from my local retailer was quick and after recently reviewing a treadmill it seemed much lighter, weighing in around 10kg. What you do notice as you start to remove the parts from the box is that there are a fair number of sections that have to be bolted together. A quick flick through the instruction manual and we were ready to start putting it together.

The instructions were simple enough to follow and although there were a few fiddly bits it wasn’t anything too troubling. We had our Opti manual exercise bike set up in around 35-40 minutes.

Features

The Opti bike has a number of nice features included as part of the package and the manufacturers have done a good job in including the essentials.

Once the bike is complete the first feature that you will use is the height adjustable seat. It is quite a simple system of unscrewing the bolt located quite close to the base of the unit and adjusting the height before tightening it back into position.

Next I hopped on to the bike and gave it a test. What you will notice almost straight away is that the seat is very comfortable. It even beats some of the seats provided by higher end models and I would have no issues with comfort should I want to use this machine for any length of time.

Curved handle bars means that you have a number of different grip position available. The foam texture you find on the handle bars of most basic models including this one included does however make it feel a little cheap.

The machine is based on a manual resistance system and to change the cycling difficulty you simple have to turn the dial that is located on the upper neck of the bike. I admit they have done a good job of the position of the resistance dial. We have tested other basic models that require you have to change that resistance at the base and so means you to get off the bike to make adjustments.

Pedal straps are included for the more enthusiastic exercise bike users. We can’t say that they are some of the best we have seen and often they can hinder as much as help, unless they are correctly adjusted.

The no manual test – How easy is it to operate without instructions?

When it comes to the no manual test we can say that the Opti Manual Exercise bike passed with flying colours. This is mainly down to the fact that there is only one button for you to press. The system cycles through a range of options such as time, speed, distance and calories burned. If you don’t like complicated gadgets or are only concerned with basic feedback of your workout then this is the perfect match for you.

Pros

  • Manual resistance system located in good position
  • Simple to use function feedback unit
  • Large height adjustable range
  • Mobile due to feedback console requiring batteries only
  • Nice padded seat
  • After sales service is provided
  • Curved handle bars for multiple grip positions

Cons

  • Cannot fold up for storage
  • Pedal straps are prone to breakage
  • Does feel a bit unstable when in use
  • Little variation in levels of resistance
  • Little in the way of a guarantee
  • No heart rate monitor

Final word

As an entry level exercise bike the Opti exercise bike delivers in the majority of areas. At a fraction of the price of higher end models you get a surprising number of features and although it can feel unstable at times we would recommend this to people who may be choosing their first exercise bike. If you can possibly stretch to a slightly bigger budget then why not consider looking at our other budget exercise bike reviews before making your purchase?
