The Lowdown

It has to be said that this is a rather unique home fitness product. Many of us simply don’t have the space in our homes to have more than one piece of home fitness gear.

When you are looking for a multi-purpose home fitness set-up, the Opti Magnetic 2 in 1 Cross Trainer and Exercise Bike is a perfect choice. And at under £200, where’s the catch?

First Impressions

When you first look at the Opti Magnetic 2 in 1 Cross Trainer, it may look a bit strange. A cross trainer and an exercise bike? However, it does not take long to appreciate that when you are looking for an all-in-one solution, it makes perfect sense.

Unlike many other multi-purpose home exercise centres, it is not clumsy. One of the first things you will notice is that the Opti is surprisingly easy to move around a room. You may not want to move from room to room. But, if you want to move, along with transportation wheels, it is not heavy to move.

When you order the Opti, you should also consider investing in a good quality underlay. Adding an underlay stops floor vibrations and makes it more comfortable to use the Opti. All home exercise equipment often has some floor “feedback.” Remember that in the gym aerobic equipment including cross trainers are placed on matting or special surfacing.

.The Opti 2 in 1 cross trainer comes with a large padded, height and reach adjustable saddle, oversize non-slip pedals, eight levels of adjustable magnetic resistance and a 7-function LCD exercise monitor, so it seems like you do get a lot of bang for your buck!

Pros

  • Good price
  • 2 workouts in 1
  • Console feedback
  • Easy to use console
  • Light at 26.9kg (4.2 stone) when fully assembled

Cons

  • Really need a mat to go underneath.
  • Bike saddle could do with extra padding for longer riding session

Opti Magnetic 2 in 1 Cross Trainer and Exercise Bike Review

Set-Up:

Setting up the Opti Cross Trainer is easy. It is delivered with full assembly instructions. Providing that you don’t rush through the instructions, you should be up and cross-training in no time at all. It does need two people and while there aren’t too many fiddly bits, you may find your own toolbox might come in handy,

Once set up, it’s worth getting used to the adjustable features of the Opti 2-in-1 machine as you can change the height and reach saddle and non-slip pedals, to make sure it fits you perfectly before your workout.

Dimensions of the magnetic Opti 2-in-1 machine boxed is H95 x L44 x W46cm and weighs 30.1kgs, so always best to have someone to help you carry it. When fully assembled, it measures H158 x W56 x D103cm

2 things to note about this Opti machine, it is suitable for people no heavier than 100kg (15.7 stone) and most suited for heights between 1.5m-1.8m tall (although Opti says there is no height restriction).

Performance:

One of the best things about the Opti is the feedback panel which is easy to see when you exercise. This is one of the few cross trainers in this price category to give you feedback on calories used and pulse rate. You also get full feedback on time, speed and distance. The cross trainer also has an odometer function. You will need batteries to get the console to work, so make sure you have some AAA’s at home!

Also, with the 8 level variable tension control, you can start off leisurely then ramp up the pressure to really get the heart rate pumping.
Can you use the handlebars sitting on the saddle? You can, but if you have short arms you may find this a slight challenge. When you stand on the cross trainers pedals, you can enjoy a full arm extension.

It does not give a “bounce” which means you will feel secure when using the cross trainer section.

Features:

When you workout, you have a choice of 8 different resistance levels to choose from. For a home workout, the various resistance levels give you a wide choice of workouts. Turn the resistance using the knob in front of you.

If you are new to working out at home using a cross trainer and exercise bike, it is a good idea to start at a lower level. When you feel that you are comfortable with that level, you can step up your workout. Give the levels a try before you do your first proper workout!

The display is easy to see which makes it comfortable for you to monitor your workout whether standing or sitting down.

Staying Motivated When Using the Opti Magnetic 2 in 1 Cross Trainer and Exercise Bike

Staying motivated when using the Opti is relatively easy. First, you have your choice of resistance settings.

As you can easily monitor data including calories and pulse, you can set yourself a range of challenges both when you cross-train and ride the bike.

You can also use distance and speed as a motivator. The average person starts burning excess body fat when they have been exercising 4km/h for a period of 20 minutes. If your goal is to burn body fat, you can monitor the distance travelled for 20 minutes. As you get fitter, you can start increasing the distance per day and then set different weekly goals and challenges.

The calorie counter is also a great motivator. When you know you want to burn a certain number of calories per day, monitoring the number of calories you use is easy.

Things we really liked:

We like the fact that the Opti is quick to assemble. Once assembled, it is relatively easy to move around if it does get in the way.

The feedback is excellent. As you exercise, you can instantly see your speed, distance and health data including the number of calories burned.

Manufacturer’s 1-year guarantee for peace of mind.

Final thoughts on the Opti Magnetic 2 in 1 Cross Trainer and Exercise Biker

When you are looking for an all-in-one solution that gives you both an upper and lower body workout, the Opti Magnetic 2 in 1 Cross Trainer and Exercise bike is an excellent choice.

It is compact, but much studier than similar models on the market, and would be perfect for those looking to get into fitness and have the variety of both a bike and a cross-trainer. And at under £200, we were impressed with the features and can see why this model is so popular.

If you are a keen fitness enthusiast then this may be a bit basic and not challenging enough, but for most, would be a great choice to help on your fitness journey!
